Two ‘sibling disorders’ have been proposed for ICD-11 to be published in 2018; Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Complex PTSD (CPTSD). Given the potential for ICD formulations to become the primary diagnostic classification system, a thorough empirical assessment is required for the military personnel. We aim to fulfil this gap in the literature and we propose a national postal survey to a cohort of n=403 of help seeking veterans in Combat Stress to address three research aims a) to determine if there are qualitatively different groups of participants, or classes, with symptom endorsement that reflect PTSD and CPTSD using the only self-report scale (i.e. International Trauma Questionnaire (ITQ); b) to assess the internal reliability of the ITQ in military veterans for future use following the publication of ICD-11 c) to determine how presentations vary between PTSD and CPTSD in terms of co-morbidities, functioning and physical health. A range of relevant data has already been collected for this cohort.
