The significant strength of the LACs role is to work creatively with limited resources to meet the needs of service users. In the current economic climate there is an opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills of LACs to contribute more fully to addressing the health inequalities experienced by people with learning disabilities. Given the evidence of the health inequalities and range of unmet health needs experienced by people with learning disabilities, Enhancing the Public Health Role of Local Area Coordinators in Scotland: An evaluation set out the need to develop and implement an academically accredited health improvement resource within the education programme delivered for all LACs.
This project aims to:
Enhance the LACs understanding of the wider determinants of health
Increase the LACs understanding of the health inequalities experienced by children, adults and older people with learning disabilities
Develop the LACs knowledge of public health approaches aimed at improving health and well-being
Develop the LACs appreciation of a range of health improvement models available to improve health and well-being
