Project Description

Introduction:
Missing persons with dementia are challenging for families, carers and emergency services. The social impact and resource implications of policing time and cost are significant and with increasing fiscal pressure, innovative solutions are required to mitigate this demand. At the same time, it is essential to ensure that the human and equality rights of people with dementia are respected. One promising intervention is ‘Return Discussions’, a collaborative potential solution between Alzheimer Scotland and Police Scotland. Following a pilot evaluation, this now requires an evaluation of the costs and social impact.

This project builds on R2638 with the follow objectives:
1. Conduct six case studies to explore the social and human impact of RD.
2. Conduct knowledge exchange event to inform national policy and practice.
3. Disseminate findings at relevant conferences.
