Biography Miles is an Associate Professor at Edinburgh Napier University Business School. Key research interests include advancing purpose-led business and the application of systems thinking for sustainability and circular business models.

Miles holds a PhD and First-Class Honours degree from Aston Business School in Birmingham.

Miles makes an impact through his involvement (Founding Trustee) of Edinburgh CAN B (places Edinburgh as part of a growing international cities network – promoting wider individual and organisation engagement to impact global change at a city level) and over ten years of supporting business leaders and young professionals to "get on board" and make a difference as charity trustees (awarded an Advance HE Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence and national Herald Higher Education Award for empowering student learning for this body of work). Miles has made a long standing contribution as a UK Council member of the UK Operational Society, currently part of its UK research committee and annually chairs the "Grand Challenges and OR" session at each conference.

Within the Business School, Miles leads efforts towards PRME (the United Nation's Principles for Responsible Business in Management) and at a university level, Societal Impact.

You can join one of Miles CPD courses run annually:

Systems Thinking for a Circular Economy

Miles is actively looking for PhD students that are interested in the application of systems thinking for sustainability and circular business models towards closing what Miles describes as the value(s)-action gap in sustainability (between an organisations intentions embodied in its purpose and values, and in putting these values into action to create value with meaningful impact).
