Abstract

This work considers binaries and opposites., boundaries and classifications in an effort to understand and deconstruct. Intentional or not, the words that are used in these classifications have the effect of excluding. It is clear that we do not live in a world of binary opposites and everything is a spectrum.
This work stores a database of words and their potential semantic opposites. In this work the two words are presented in a sound responsive environment, growing and shrinking according to external input. Words change every 15 seconds.
Projected on the face of the federal post office in Patchoque, the resulting work is a dynamic responsive projection presenting these binaries writ large in a constant battle for dominance. This projection asks the question what am I if I’m not one thing or another but something in-between?
