Abstract
These data are from a project which aimed to collect and analyse student attitudes to artificial intelligence (AI) and their own learning and assessment while they are studying with Edinburgh Napier University. AI tools such as ChatGPT make it easier to generate outputs, such as text, which students could use either in whole or part to create work which they submit as their own for assessments. Very little is known about students' attitudes towards these tools - whether they see them as legitimate aids for refining their own work, or a threat to the value of their learning and degrees. In this 'Amnesty' Padlet students could post their comments and thoughts about this issue. They could also read other students' anonymous posts. These posts were the data for the research. This data will be of interest to ENU academic and support staff and a wider HE audience.

Collection Method | Data was collected via an online Padlet board where students could leave anonymous posts in response to open question prompts, in addition to viewing each other’s posts. The Padlet was open for posts and reactions between 27th March and 5th May 2023. Students had to complete MS Form to consent to participation, before being given a link to the Padlet. The following prompts were provided on the Padlet subheader: · Have you used it (ChatGPT)? · Will you use it? · What do you think of others using it? · Should AI play a role in learning and assessment? Students could add posts anonymously. |
