Dunbar SciFest Projection Event

People Involved

Project Description

Dunbar Arts Trust is working with the Dunbar SciFest (with 8,500 visitors in 2014, it is possibly the largest primary school science festival in Europe) to develop an annual visual and performance arts event to be run alongside the popular annual Science Festival. This event will aim to celebrate and elucidate some of the myriad important, but often overlooked connections between art and science.

The planned art and science event is intended to engage with new and extended audiences for the Science Festival and the Arts Trust. As 2015 has been designated UNESCO Year of Light, it has been decided to use light as the medium for the project.

The project is seen as the beginning of a recurring art, design and science collaboration. As part of this project, it is proposed that a large-scale temporary light and projection installation is used to transform the redundant Barns Ness Lighthouse into a storytelling beacon. The project will also explore options and plans for further larger scale public engagement events over the following two years.
