• Explore methane producing methanogens and methane consuming methanotrophs diversity
and functional genes across multiple peatland sites under water table changes and
quantitatively link it to methane fluxes.
• Study populations of methanogens and methanotrophs using metagenomic-assembled
genomes to characterize their role in ecosystem-level controls on peatland methane cycling.
• Investigate the subset of active methane cycling archaea and bacteria as well as other
interacting microbes in peatlands using stable isotope probing to quantify their role in
ecosystem methane flux.

Methane-derived carbon in upland stream food webs Oct 1, 2020 - Mar 31, 2024
The project is a SUPER-DTP funded PhD studentship. The work will focus on the understanding of the processes involved in, and the significance of, the incorporation of methane as a carbon source via methane-oxidising bacteria (MOB) into upland river...

Quantifying AMR in the River Almond Catchment Area Sep 27, 2021 - Mar 26, 2025
Aim
To Quantifying AMR Pollution and identify the major sources of point and diffuse AMR pollution in the River Almond Catchment Area in order to provide a baseline for future risk assessment and intervention strategies.
Scotland-India Antimicrobial Resistance in the Environment Network (SIAMREN) Oct 23, 2020 - Jun 30, 2021
This project focuses upon the creation and growth of a network of researchers within Scotland and India who have common research interests in the challenges presented by the emergence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in the environment. In this pro...
