Newborns Vietnam (NBV) is a United Kingdom registered charity licensed to operate as a non-governmental organization (NGO) in Vietnam dedicated to reducing neonatal mortality in South East Asia, with a specific focus on Vietnam. NBV have approached Edinburgh Napier University to undertake a training needs analysis with midwives in Viet Nam with the view of developing an educational intervention to improve respectful midwifery care to women and their families.

The objectives of this project are to:
• Conduct a brief literature review of published and grey literature on midwifery education and continuous professional development in Viet Nam.
• Develop a focus group topic guide to explore in-depth the midwives current confidence and competence and training needs.
• Obtain ethical approval from the Edinburgh Napier University and the following hospitals: Phu San Hanoi (Hanoi OBGY),Da Nang Hospital for Women & Children, Duc Giang General Hospital and Gia Lam District Hospital to conduct the study.
• Write and submit a written report for funders and the named hospitals
• Submit a paper for publication in a peer-reviewed journal to disseminate the results.
