Edinburgh Napier University to investigate and undertake the following tasks:
•Collate, analyse and summarise their research base on mass timber and its viability as a construction technique for the UK construction industry.
•Update figures around material costs, demand and usage, current market conditions, market share for residential, commercial, education etc.,
•Upon validating the feasibility of fabricating panels from either home-grown or imported timber, research the feasibility of a mass timber manufacturing facility in Scotland through assessment of the various potential benefits detailed above.
•If viable, act as academic lead for ‘Mass Timber Alliance’ to include raw timber suppliers, designers/engineers and contractors to create an enterprise of mutual benefit to all, and therefore the Scottish construction industry and economy. This would be in a similar vein to the position they hold within the collaborative group Offsite Solutions Scotland (OSS).
