New Processes for Tranforming Unexploited Textiles into High Value Products

Project Description
This project proposes utilising high quality Scottish ‘unused’ textiles, including pieces of yarn and fabric that are too small to be used in apparel or upholstery production, in a ‘powdered’ form. This will then be combined with a recyclable polymer towards an aesthetically desirable, sustainable 3D printer filament with attribution to the prestigious Scottish textile brand from where the textiles were sourced. It is anticipated that Scottish knitted and woven wool, cashmere and mixed fibres and recycled leather will be used.
In addition to ‘branded’ filaments, the project team intend to create a range of filaments that combine waste textiles from a variety of sources with coloured and metallic pigments, also sourced from prestigious Scottish companies, to produce another product range with different attributes.
