INDUSTRY/ COMMERCIAL EXPERIENCE

With over 16 years of experience in the hospitality industry, she brings extensive international expertise, particularly in revenue management. She has held roles with prominent hotel chains such as Marriott International, Starwood, InterContinental, Hyatt, and Mandarin Oriental, among others.

As an expatriate, Angela has had the opportunity to work in diverse market environments across various global locations, allowing her to develop strong communication skills and gain a broad understanding of different cultures. In her previous role as Director of Revenue Strategy, she not only focused on maximising total hotel revenue but also contributed to long-term strategic planning. Additionally, she served on the Executive Committee, participating in critical decision-making processes across departments.

Following the UK REF, she has converted her publications into commercial reports to further enhance her research and make it more impact in the real world. She was invited to give an expert consultation report for the Korean Government, specifically the city of Yeosu, which hosted the 2012 Expo. The Korean Tourism Development is planning to redevelop it into a complex centred around marine tourism and leisure activities.

Angela is a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Revenue and Pricing Management and conducted an RM-related textbook review: Advanced Introduction to Pricing Strategy and Analytics. She serves as a peer reviewer for several prestigious journals, including the International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management (CABS 3*), International Journal of Hospitality Management (CABS 3*), Tourism Culture Communication (CABS 1*), Tourism Review (CABS 1*), Journal of Destination Marketing & Management (CABS 1*) and Research in Hospitality Management. In addition, she volunteers as a reviewer and moderator for various conferences, such as CAUTHE, TTRA APAC, EUROChrie and APACChrie, contributing her expertise to the broader academic community. With her previous experience as part of the organising committees of the 2019 Joint APAC & EUROChrie conferences and the 2020 APACChrie Youth Conference, she is now serving as one of the organising committees for TBS to host the International Society of Travel Tourism Educators (ISTTE) 2025 Annual conference, dated 22nd to 24th October 2025.

TEACHING & LEARNING
Angela leads the Global Online BA Business Management top-up program, one of the largest undergraduate online offerings in The Business School. She taught undergraduate and graduate courses in revenue management, hospitality, tourism, transportation, and event management. Her doctoral research explored revenue management in the cruise industry, and she is passionate about expanding these concepts into other sectors such as festivals & events. She pioneered revenue management short courses at ENU (the Scottish Government Funded Upskilling course and the Open CPD NCB), which have positively impacted participants’ business decisions and career advancement. She has since developed advanced courses (Open CPD) to further support industry professionals. With her success, she was invited to share my best practices and experience across the university including the differences in running Scottish Funded upskilling and CPD courses.
Angela has revamped one of her modules through active learning. As the first to conduct a ‘flip classroom’ approach in the assessment, I have consulted colleagues (including DLTE, PL, internal and external examiner) for feedback. The module will be delivered in 2024-25 TR2.

To enhance quality, Angela committed herself to taking part in the SPC (School Provision Committee) to ensure that all provisions considered are in line with the School’s mission and adhere to University Academic Standards as well as to the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA).

Outside of ENU, Angela has been an external advisor for the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Business Quality Administration – BSc Hospitality Management approval (top-up) for the joint programme with the University of Plymouth and Hong Kong University SPACE. I have also been invited as one of the judging panel members for the 11th Chinese Student Negotiation Competition representing the UK University from the North. I will continue to support and contribute to bridging academia and commercial with real-life impact.
