Biography Dr Xavier Pierron is a lecturer in Strategy and Circular Economy at Napier Business School. He is interested in developing new business models to answer challenges posed by sustainability issues. His research has explored the use of behavioural economics to map consumer behaviour and inform business strategies, notably to increase smartphones collection rates. Xavier has a hybrid academic and professional experience. As an academic he has provided Lean Six Sigma training to organisations such as Sims Metal Recycling and GE Aviation when working for Coventry Business School. As a professional, Xavier has worked in overseas start-up and mid-size manufacturing organisations in Canada and Hong Kong. He has a strong understanding of the specific needs and expectations SME’s might have whilst ensuring the best academic standards and expertise are delivered.

Xavier has always enjoyed bringing together different but complementary fields of expertise. He has degrees in Business (BA in Business Administration and MSc in Management), as well as Engineering (MSE in Industrial Operations and PhD in Engineering and the Environment). Bringing together Business and Engineering has enabled him to develop innovative research for the circular economy, namely using Behavioural Economics to further close the loop for e-waste and smartphones.

His focus is on research and income generation. He is currently extracting several research papers from his PhD research and is associated with other Napier academics to generate income for the Business School with bids related to the circular economy. He focuses on better understanding consumer behaviour to inform business strategies to achieve a circular economy. Achieving a circular economy is not only a medium term necessity but also a competitive advantage at short term for organisations. Organisations developing strategies minimising waste, increasing quality and adopting stable revenue models, for example with subscriptions, can increase their bottom-line whilst minimising their carbon footprint. Xavier uses his professional background and academic knowledge to develop innovative methods to help businesses engage with the circular economy.
