Project Title Exploring the views of Community Children’s Nurses. What educational knowledge and skills do child health nurses need to work in a community children’s nursing team and why?
Project Description The overall aim of the study was to identify what educational knowledge and skills child health nurses need to work in a community children’s nursing team. A phenomenological exploratory study was used to explore the views of Community Children’s Nurses (CCN’s) using semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis. Findings indicated an overall lack of educational opportunity for community children’s nursing in Scotland. Key findings related to four specific areas: the role and function of the CCN, differences between community and acute nursing, the need for an educational pathway in community children’s nursing and opportunities for enhanced student learning.
