Biography I am a vocalist, specialising in Jazz through much of the broad spectrum that the stylistic label implies. I am a lecturer and program designer in Popular Music at Edinburgh Napier University, Scotland, where I specialise in vocal performance, ensemble skills and creative practices. As an educator I draw on experience in teaching and training across multiple skill sets and age groups, including previous employment working with a youth choir, as a learning assistant and music instructor in a specialist school for at risk children, and collaborating in the delivery of weekend jazz workshops for NYJOS. I was awarded senior fellowship of the higher Education Academy in 2018.
Research Interests My teaching and research interests include:
vocal performance physicality and technique incorporating core training, anatomy and emotional prosody;
teaching and learning of musical concepts and theories from the perspectives of varying technical disciplines;
andragogic practice and design for the enhancement of autonomous learning and self-awareness in creative endeavour.
Teaching and Learning teaching responsibilities include:
level 7 - Ensemble performance and related music theory, vocal technique, musicianship and performance.
Level 8 - Ensemble performance and related music theory, vocal technique, musicianship, stagecraft and performance.
Level 9 - Ensemble performance, arranging, and related music theory. Vocal technique, musicianship, stagecraft and performance. Creative practices and autonomy.
Level 10 - Ensemble performance, song writing, lyric writing and related music theory. Vocal technique, musicianship, stagecraft and performance. Supervisor for major music projects, research projects and dissertations
