Summary The International Joint Conference on Computational Intelligence brings together researchers, engineers and practitioners interested in the field of Computational Intelligence both from theoretical and application perspectives.

Four simultaneous tracks will be held covering different aspects of Computational Intelligence, including evolutionary computation, fuzzy computation, neural computation and cognitive and hybrid systems. The connection of these areas in all their wide range of approaches and applications forms the International Joint Conference on Computational Intelligence.

Summary The New Year welcomed Emma Hart to the helm of Evolutionary Computation. She took over the role of Editor-in-Chief from Hans-Georg Beyer (who had assumed the role himself in 2010). Summary The International Federation of Operational Research Societies (IFORS) is a 50-year old organization which is currently composed of 50 national societies. It publishes a quarterly newsletter in which it highlights news stories from the field of OR and a regular tutorial which introduces a new technique to the community.

Prof. Hart's work on Lifelong Learning is covered in the tutorial. She was invited to contribute to the newsletter following a keynote talk the European OR conference in Poznan, 2016.
