Biography Paul Kerlaff is Programme Leader for BDes (Hons) Interior and Spatial Design at Edinburgh Napier University and an internationally exhibited design practitioner. He has considerable teaching experience within the context of art schools and universities, and a track record of providing theoretical, vocational and studio tuition across a range of design disciplines including Architecture, Interior, Product and Furniture Design in the UK, Dubai and China.

He has been responsible for the development and delivery of a new BA (Hons) Interior Design undergraduate degree, and has a strong understanding of the external context and challenges facing design education today. Key achievements in his current role include the development of rigorous, critical engagement amongst students through live projects, and the fostering of an international community of practice through award winning peer-tutoring projects. Paul is currently visiting lecturer at Zhengzhou University of Light Industry, China.

Since 2001 his company With Kerlaff has worked with clients including SuperDry, Channel 4, Heathrow Terminal 5, and the Scottish Parliament, and his research-led design practice has been exhibited at venues including 100% Design London, MUDAC in Lausanne, Switzerland, and the Venice Architecture Biennale.

Paul's practice and research activities have directly informed his teaching, and through a programme of live projects such as the Talbot Rice Gallery Reception Desk, his students have been motivated by a direct engagement with clients, and been able to draw on his expertise in the curation, design and manufacture of exhibition and retail projects.
