Abstract
Various previous studies analysed trunk alignment at key events of the golf swing, but in most cases players swung only one type of golf club or clubs from different categories (for example a driver and a 5-iron). However, a better understanding of how players adapt their swing to different design variations of a single type of club could improve the design and club fitting process. Hence, the aim of this study was to analyse whether golfers adapted their swing kinematics when swinging 6-irons with different mechanical properties. Five skilled male golfers performed four swings with each of ten different commercially available 6-irons. To characterise swing kinematics, thorax and pelvis rotation were recorded using an optical motion capture system (Vicon v8i, f=250 Hz, 12 cameras, Oxford Metrics. U.K). Temporal swing characteristics did not change significantly depending on the club used, but significant variations (P
