Abstract

“Internationalisation at home” (IaH) is an aspect of internationalisation of higher education (IoHE) which aims at making global citizenship development available to all students and academics, not just the minority who can travel. IaH requires a review of curricula, learning, teaching and assessment. It is argued that IoHE research needs a stronger theoretical basis for future studies and research. This poster outlines the development of an explanatory framework for IaH based on activity theory (AT), focussing on the Chinese higher education (HE) context. AT provides a framework for analysis of stakeholder activities work together to learn through resolution of conflicts and contradictions. This model will underpin a larger study into the impact of international and intercultural dimensions on stakeholders within a Chinse university.
