The aim of this project is to develop an educational resource in the form of a suite of academic modules and continuous professional development education initiatives related to the educational needs of professionals involved in the care of individuals living with and beyond cancer. This interim report aims to provide a background to the development of the project and the progress to date. Macmillan Cancer Support agreed to support this initiative and awarded funding to Edinburgh Napier University to enable the project to be developed and subsequently delivered.
The project has been developed in a series of phases. Phase one involved the employment of a Macmillan Teaching Fellow who would lead the day-day management of the project. In this exploratory phase a focus groups were conducted with consultant nurses, patients and other health care stakeholders in order to ensure that the material being developed was relevant to current and changing needs reflected in practice. A scope of the literature was conducted at this point.
In phase 2 a thorough review of the literature was conducted to ensure that both national and international issues were considered and the outcome of this work is provide later in the report. Table 1 and 2 .
The analysis from the above activity is currently being used to underpin the development of an educational resource. This resource is designed to complement the current provision within Edinburgh Napier MSc and BSc provision.
