Professor to give keynote at Innovations in Teaching and Learning Conference

Description Outline
Professor Bill Buchanan will be outlining Stimulating and Engaging: Innovation and Enterprise in Teaching at the Innovations in Teaching and Learning Conference on 6 Jan 2015.

The talk will focus on how innovative methods can be put in-place which not only supports our students, but can place Edinburgh Napier University at the forefront of innovation in teaching. A key focus will be on how digital technologies can be used to support students who are both campus based and remote, and how they can both engage and stimulate our students.
ProfileBill has won awards for both innovation and teaching, including Most Innovative Tutor in 2014 within the Edinburgh Napier University Excellence Awards. He has an extensive resource of on-line material, including on Youtube (now with over 1,800 subscribers) and with one of the advanced academic Web sites for Cyber Security. He has published over 27 academic books, with new plans for a whole series on Cyber Security.

Along with this he has an extensive research profile with direct funding of over £2 million over the past few years, with two successful spin-out companies (Zonefox and Symphonic Trust).

CodeRace - A competitive event for teams of four cyclists. Teams have to visit locations displayed on a mobile app and solve clues to claim them.

Description A competitive event for teams of four cyclists. Teams have to visit locations displayed on a mobile app and solve clues to claim them. The team with the largest number of locations at the end of the game wins.

The original event was reported here by one of the competitors: https://river.cat/2012/08/Coderace

The game was later run for other groups including students at ESISAR in Valence, France, and in St. Andrews as an activity for students of the Destination Leaders Programme (Edinburgh Napier Business School).
