Project Description
The Office of Cyber Security & Information Assurance (OCSIA) estimates that the cost of cybercrime to businesses, in the UK alone, is over £21 billion per annum. This project focuses on the real-time assessment of the risks associated with affiliate marketing networks. The OCSIA report refers to this as online fraud and estimates its cost at £1.4 billion. The team at Edinburgh Napier University, led by Professor Bill Buchanan, an acknowledged expert in the field of security and cybercrime, are developing RATTRAP, a software product which provides real-time detection of potential threats and risks to online transactions between businesses and networks providing affiliate marketing services. The work-to-date has been funded by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) in London, and thus the team has had access to a wide range of key finance professionals which has guided the early development of this novel product.
