A critically important project to the medical and nursing profession, Leadership in Compassionate Care, in recognising that patients are central to all nursing practice and it is imperative that their individual experience of care is the optimum that it can be. Patient survey results, such as the Picker project indicate that this is not always the case and when patients feel vulnerable or unsure, the 'human touch' is very important and it is vital, therefore, to respond to these findings, by striving to ensure that compassion and understanding of individual needs is embedded in all nursing practices.
