Project Description

Using non destructive testing (NDT) methods to asses whether they can be used to detect shake in oak before the trees are felled.
This is part of a Forest Research (FR) project to assess an area of 120 oak trees in the Forest of Wyre. This will involve developing the method at FR before field work of testing the standing trees using Rintech Arbotum and Resistograph instruments along with in field measurments, then on 48 trees that are felled. These 48 trees will then be processed and checked if they have shake. The previous NDT testing will then be assessed to determine whether shake can be predicted on the remaining 72 still standing trees.
