Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) are expected play significant roles in the society and economy. However, the current AVs have a severe drawback: they are unable to recognize the situations they are facing on the road related to their users or tasks at an early-enough stage and are unable to adapt themselves proactively to solve these situations. This drawback is caused by two factors: the perception of the AVs are significantly limited by sensing range for safety reason and occlusions, and the AVs lack adequate real-time self-learning ability.
The project aims to advance the current state-of-art of pervasive computing with a novel approach to developing a new generation of Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) which will enjoy the unique feature of situation-proactivity.
