Mountain Biking and Music from Data

People Involved

Project Description

1. We will, by working with a range of people with varying experience, explore how an interdisciplinary approach to sports and the arts can encourage engagement in both areas. We will look at ways in which
we can encourage integrated engagement in artistic endeavours and healthy activity through the sonification of health and activity data from mountain biking. This will involve a range of activities including
collecting activity data from riders, working with younger riders to collect and discuss health data, and running music-making workshops with participants to help them to make music from their health/activity data.. We will also engage in composers/sound-
art projects using data to make music from community activity.
2. We will host an event at the MTBCOS as part of the Tweedlove Bike Festival in which we will share this work with a range of industry and education partners.
3. We will conduct a qualitative research study in which we will probe the experiences (both regarding the artistic/aesthetic and the sports/wellbeing dimensions of the work) of those involved in the project
