Project Description
DLT is a mass timber product that can be used for floor, wall, and roof structures. It is structurally very efficient and economical to use in construction.
As part of the process to make DLT, the wood requires to be kiln dried. Ligna Alba Ltd have a concept to develop mobile solar kilns for use on site within the South of Scotland using forests in Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders and into Cumbria.
The partnership with Edinburgh Napier University is believed to provide some improvements to existing static solar kilns, by optimising the design of the kiln enclosure, the solar collector and air flow within the kiln and remote monitoring.
Existing commercially available traditional kilns are expensive to buy/lease, are not suitable for off grid use and produce an inferior quality of timber through a forced kiln drying process.
