New directions in digital jazz studies: music information retrieval and AI support for jazz scholarship in digital archives

People Involved

Project Description

The key research questions that motivate this project may be framed this way: How can we increase the value of jazz archives by applying technology and developing methods for digital musicology and humanities more generally that enable better discovery within archival collections? How can we use linked data and AI to support archive users’ participation in and co-creation of new information and representations of those collections? How can we enrich user experiences with audio collections by connecting them to geographic, historical, and cultural metadata? And finally, how can we use this project to create transferable methods and tools that will ultimately offer the capacity to connect more musical archives over time?
