PhD studentship: DATA SCIENCE AND ADHERENCE TO MEDICATIONS

Project Description

Adherence to medications is increasingly important for population health, as chronic conditions become more prevalent. With the development of IT infrastructures that record medication prescribing and dispensing in routine care, data on medication use become increasingly accessible at large scale. Electronic Healthcare Data (EHD) can be used to calculate adherence and visualise medication histories; to allow transparent and reproducible research on medication adherence. This project aims to integrate theory- and evidence-based estimation of adherence to medication and visualisation of medication histories into routine primary care practice in Scotland and develop the methodology for linking research with practice in Electronic Healthcare Data-based adherence estimation and intervention. The purpose is also to understand what would facilitate implementation of the work at scale. This PhD is part of a larger scale project in collaboration with the University of Lyon who will compliment this study with a quantitative evaluation of the databases capability.
