Project Description
The number of special constables in Scotland have been dropping in recent years (Police Scotland, 2018), however, little has been done by researchers to explore the reasons behind these rates of attrition and lower levels of recruitment. With special constables occupying a place within the Local Approaches to Policing Programme, as a vehicle for establishing greater links between the public and the police, understanding more about the causes, and possible solutions, behind these trends can provide Police Scotland with the resources to better recruit and retain these volunteers.
