Social media by proxy: Managing online information for adults with dementia

People Involved

Project Description

As social media use by older people increases, along with an increased rate of dementia diagnoses, the management or oversight of social networking sites by carers is likely to increase. This research aims to investigate the “lived experiences” of people who act as “social media proxies”, managing the social networking profiles and online information for adults with dementia.
The proposed research combines two research areas at Edinburgh Napier University’s Centre for Social Informatics: (1) the use of online information in the management of personal reputation and (2) digital tools help care staff get to know personal and social information about clients with dementia living in residential care facilities.
