Description The project on which I was Principal Investigator, “Naloxone in Police Scotland: pilot evaluation,” was “Highly commended” at the Scottish Herald Higher Education Awards 2024 “Research Project of the Year”. This award was highly competitive, involving the majority of higher education institutions from around Scotland. The esteem credited to our project had a notable part to play in Edinburgh Napier University (ENU) being awarded “Higher Education Institution of the Year” at the Scottish Herald Higher Education Awards 2024.

Description The National Police and Prison Care Networks facilitated a webinar session on Wednesday 11 December 2024 on
Naloxone in the Justice System to support the continuous professional development of staff working within the NHS,
Police Scotland, Scottish Prison Service (SPS) and wider partners.
The session was opened by Hannah Cornish, Senior Programme Manager for the National Prison & Police Care
Networks who welcomed and introduced the speakers:

• Mariebeth Kilbride, Senior Learning and Development Officer, Drug Death Prevention, Scottish Drugs Forum (SDF)
• Wez Steele, Training and Development Officer (Peer Naloxone), Scottish Drugs Forum
About the session
• Dr Peter Hillen presented the findings from the evaluation of Police Scotland’s Naloxone pilot. Peter discussed
Police Scotland’s response to the initiative, including key facilitators and barriers.
• Mariebeth Kilbride and Wez Steele presented data on the drug related deaths in Scotland in 2023, the Scottish
Drug Forum peer Naloxone project, the Scottish Naloxone Network and national projects with the emergency
services, courts and custody.
