Biography Dr Ciara Ryan is a lecturer in occupational therapy at Edinburgh Napier University's School of Health and Social Care, where she leads interprofessional modules in research methods and healthcare innovation.

Ciara's research portfolio spans technological innovation, clinical education, and mental health practice. She is supporting a Royal College of Occupational Therapists funded study investigating how multifunctional robots can enhance rehabilitation for people living with dementia, exploring the intersection of technology and person-centered care. Ciara's work in substance use rehabilitation, supported by the Constance Owens Trust, is conducting the first comprehensive mapping of occupational therapy practice in substance use services across the UK. Through the ACE IT project (Advancing Clinical Education through Innovative Technology), alongside an inter-professional team, she is exploring the use of machine vision technology to support manual handling education and its potential to improve patient and clinician safety.

After completing her BSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy at the National University of Ireland, Galway, Ciara went on to complete a PhD at Glasgow Caledonian University, where she developed a self-management intervention for individuals living with stroke-related visual impairment. Ciara's clinical background is in residential rehabilitation for problematic drug and alcohol use.
