Biography Dr. Azwa Shamsuddin is a lecturer in adult health nursing at Edinburgh Napier University, where she specializes in leadership, nursing workforce issues, and evidence-based practice. With a robust educational background and extensive research experience, Dr. Shamsuddin has made significant contributions to the field of nursing both academically and clinically.

Dr. Shamsuddin obtained her PhD in Nursing Studies from the University of Edinburgh, where her doctoral research focused on the role of leadership in empowering nurses' professional identity to achieve research utilization. She holds a Master's degree in Clinical Nursing for International Students from King's College London, and a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from the National University of Malaysia.

Her research endeavors include leading a cross-sectional observational study on safe nurse staffing in Scotland, collaborating with the University of Pennsylvania. Previously, she was a research fellow at the Centre for Medical Informatics at the University of Edinburgh, where she contributed to projects aimed at improving prescribing safety in English general practices.

Dr. Shamsuddin has also held academic positions at the University of Hull and the National University of Malaysia, where she has been instrumental in teaching and curriculum development. At Edinburgh Napier University, she leads a postgraduate module on leadership and a module on ethical reasoning in nursing practice on the Singapore programme, and coordinates dissertation modules for MSc Nursing students.

An active researcher, Dr. Shamsuddin has published extensively in high-impact journals, covering topics such as sustainable prescribing safety interventions, the impact of COVID-19 treatments, and the use of clinical decision support systems in primary care. She is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a registered nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (UK), the Malaysian Nursing Board and the Singapore Nursing Board.

Dr. Shamsuddin is committed to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion within the academic and healthcare communities, serving on relevant committees at Edinburgh Napier University and previously at the University of Edinburgh.
