| Biography | Having recently completed a master’s degree in Advanced Security & Digital Forensics at Edinburgh Napier University and achieving a distinction grade level two, I continued on to follow a PhD program at Edinburgh Napier University. I am a mature student with over 30 years’ experience in the IT industry and up until recently, I have been working as a consultant with a financial software supplier involved in all aspects of financial software development, implementation and maintenance. Prior to this position, I have worked within the IT research and development divisions of several other major companies including Shell and IBM and the Technical Research Centre of Finland. During the course of countless engagements throughout the years I have been exposed to many different financial systems and company infrastructures and their associated policies and philosophies regarding security. This exposure sparked a keen interest in how companies secured their IT assets and intellectual property and how the balance was made between ease of access and security. Due to this, I started to research the field of information security and consequently enrolled and completed the master’s course. As a final dissertation project, I became deeply involved in ransomware detection and mitigation techniques, resulting in the development of a novel approach to ransomware mitigation drawing on techniques used in other fields. I am excited to be continuing to extend my research in this fascinating area. |
