Project Title An examination of how meaningful participation by the adult at risk is facilitated by adult protection professionals within the adult protection case conference
Project Description Undertake an in-depth system level analysis of how people are meaningfully participating in their Adult Protection Case Conference
(APCC)
Research Questions;
Within the context of adult protection case conferences:
• How are adults at risk and other key stakeholders defining meaningful participation?
• How are adults at risk being supported to meaningfully participate in APCC?
• to what extent do APCCs facilitate participatory justice?
As the objective is to explore the perspectives of adults at risk and ASP professionals, this research will be located within a qualitative paradigm, using an interpretivist lens and with the researcher actively interacting with participants to make sense of their experiences. The overarching philosophical stance is transformative (Mertens, 2010), confronting issues of social justice, power, and human rights. This philosophy is closely aligned with a participatory-social justice theoretical framework, in terms of both the research topic itself and the methods to be employed. These methods include a co-production approach by inviting people who are in receipt of services, to engage with the research process itself, with the aim to improve and enhance the experience of participation in ASP
