The responses of invertebrates to man-made noise are however still poorly studied, despite their importance in marine ecosystems. Uncovering these responses is the focus of the noise research group at Edinburgh Napier. In my PhD research I am working with several mollusc and crustacean model species, to identify their response to man-made noise on multiple levels of biological organisation. Using a mechanistic integrative approach I am investigating the effects of noise on behaviour through to genetics. I am conducting multifaceted experiments with a collaborative team from across Scotland, to better understand not only if noise affects these animals, but also how and why these responses occur.
