Biography Zoe Irvine takes great delight in bringing the world of sound to students primarily on the BA and MA filmmaking programmes, sharing her passion for the power of sound design as a narrative tool. Her teaching is based in her practice as a sound designer and sound artist, her ongoing research and exploration in this area and her own quest to connect curriculum with Audio post-production industry.
Irvine is also an Avid certified trainer in Pro Tools.
Research Interests Her practice based research interrogates the connective power of sound in different contexts. For example the ability of film sound design to illicit subconscious audience responses even within how dialogue is recorded and treated, or the power of the telephone to provide an intimate auditory connection in the time of zoom calls.
Teaching and Learning I have gained Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy in 2019
In 2019 I was also awarded the 'Most Inspiring Tutor' Award by the Edinburgh Napier Student Association - an award which I am immensely proud of.
