Biography Dr Janette Pow has been a Lecturer within the School of Health and Social Care since 2013. Janette is registered with the NMC as an Adult Nurse, Health Visitor, Nurse Prescriber and Nurse Teacher. Janette qualified as a registered adult nurse in 1993 before going onto to undertake her BSc in Community Health Nursing: Specialist Practitioner Health Visitor training at Queen Margaret University. In 2002 Janette went onto complete her Masters of Public Health with the University of Dundee. In 2009 Janette completed her PhD at Edinburgh Napier University whilst working as a research fellow evaluating the Healthy Respect Project: A National Sexual Health Demonstration project funded by the Scottish Government. Her PhD titled ‘Assessing Partnership Working: Evidence from the National Sexual Health Demonstration Project’ was a mixed methods study incorporating the use of social network analysis to analyse the strength of the relationships between NHS, Voluntary and Education partners working together to improve the sexual health of young people in Scotland. Findings from Janette’s PhD study influenced operational policy in sexual health service provision improving access to services for young people.
Janette has recently developed a Master of Public Health Programme (MPH) for the School of Health and Social Care and this has been approved to commence in January 2023. Janette teaches on a number of postgraduate modules in the School and is Programme Lead and Module Lead for a number of the modules on the new MPH Programme.
Janette is the external examiner for the Master of Public Programme at Glasgow Caledonian University.
Janette’s research interests are in public health, young people’s health and wellbeing, health improvement evaluation and assessment and community nursing.
Janette has published extensively in peer reviewed Journals in this area – see research outputs. Janette is a reviewer/assessor for the Carnegie Trust and HISES and an evidence reviewer for the National Institute of Healthcare Research (NIHR).
Janette has recently been appointed as editorial board member for the Scottish University Press and is a Scottish Government panel member for the Children and Young People in Scotland Group.
