Educational Visit to a Retrofit Project and Offsite Manufacturing Facility

Summary
Students from Edinburgh Napier University (ENU) have been learning first hand from the deep retrofit of Built Environment – Smarter Transformation (BE-ST)’s National Retrofit Centre.
The agenda included the following:
-1hr tour of ‘A-Lab’ (the building being retrofit) including a chat with the contractors carrying out the works.
-40 min tour of ‘Z-Lab’ (working offsite manufacturing facility + various demonstrator builds and products)
-20 min group discussion/ summary / reflections on what’s been learned – One of our former AT students will be hosting the visit. He kindly offered to answer any questions students might have about life after graduation as an AT In general.

Summary
This article is based on the Times Higher Education Most Innovative Teacher of the Year 2024 Awards nomination which made it to the final shortlist. This is a particular highlight of Dr Suha Jaradat's career which is related to leading the development and accreditation of the innovative work-based learning Graduate Apprenticeship (GA) programme. This GA programme has been the first of its kind to be accredited by the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT). This initiative has been a significant step towards creating more diverse and inclusive educational opportunities, reflecting a commitment to nurturing an environment in which every student can thrive.

Spotlight on Architectural Technology Video (2022)

Summary
Dr Suha Jaradat was invited by the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) – a dynamic, forward-thinking and inclusive qualifying body with a global membership, to film a video with one of Edinburgh Napier University students to promote Architectural Technology which is a creative and innovative design discipline that integrates architecture, science, technology, engineering and maths. Despite its clear alignment with STEM subjects, very few young people know about it!
