Fiona Mason

Biography	I am the Head of Business Engagement and IP Commercialisation. In my dual role, I lead on both the business engagement and research commercialisation functions at Edinburgh Napier University and manage the team of BDRM professionals. I have over 25 years of experience spanning both industry and HEI sector and developed a deep understanding of knowledge exchange (KE). Together with the BDRM team, I facilitate the conversion of academic research into impactful opportunities. I do this by: Building Networks: • Building partnerships and networks both internally and externally, nationally and internationally with public, private and third sector partners • Creating knowledge transfer opportunities through matching innovation with relevant expertise • Supporting the development of all consultancy and CPD opportunities Creating Impact: • Supporting the development and evolution of our research, maximising it's value and transforming it into viable commercial ventures. • Managing the IP portfolio and the Commercialisation Panel Journey leading to license or spin-out success • Leveraging university IP to develop solutions addressing critical societal challenges, driving advancements in areas like cyber and environmental sustainability for the benefit of the wider public. Passionate about KE, I am also an Non-Exec Director at Knowledge Exchange UK, (https://ke.org.uk/) the professional body for KE practitioners working in universities, private and public sector research organisations to manage IP commercialisation, collaboration and other types of engagement between researchers and external organisations to deliver social and economic impact through innovation and enhanced productivity and skills.
