Biography Dr. Debbie Meharg is Head of Applied Informatics within the School of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment. She has been involved in teaching, management, and research for over 20 years. A Senior Fellow of the HEA, SICSA Education Director, and active member of the teaching fellows community, Meharg is also the Edinburgh Napier lead for iSchools, contributing to research and educational initiatives exploring the evolving roles of information and digital literacies.
Meharg’s research interests sit within the Information Science Research Group, and she is Co-Director of the Centre for Creative and Social Informatics where she explores libraries and education with a focus on access, inclusion, and transitions. Her work explores graphical methods such as photovoice and participatory research approaches.
Additionally, Meharg is currently PI on the Royal Academy of Engineering-funded 'Library of Inspiration' project, which fosters engagement with STEM disciplines by providing high school pupils with hands-on technology kits. The initiative focuses on increasing diversity in STEM-related careers and integrates co-design approaches to ensure inclusivity and creative learning experiences.
Research Interests Debbie Meharg's main research expertise lie in education policy, access and inclusion. Other themes in which she maintains an active interest include widening participation and university strategy. She has published and presented in these areas for both national and international refereed journals and conferences.
Teaching and Learning Meharg's teaching activities lie in the information science area and the modules around business intelligence.
