Neil Urquhart elected to SPECIES board.

Summary Dr Neil Urquhart has been elected to the management board of SPECIES (Society for the Promotion of Evolutionary Computing In Europe and its Surroundings). As well as promoting Evolutionary Computation, the Society is responsible for organising the Evo* conference each year.

Neil Urquhart awarded Best Contribution to Information Society research theme.

Summary Neil Urquhart was awarded the Best Contribution to Information Society research theme award at the University Research Conference. Dr Urquhart has applied Artificial Intelligence methods based on evolution to solving travel and logistics problems. The problems investigated include the delivery of food in rural and urban areas and the scheduling of care workers in cites. The methods used to solve the problems allow the user to manage objectives such as environmental impact, public transport use and financial costs.
