Mr James Mavor

Biography	James Mavor leads the post-graduate courses in screenwriting and combines teaching with his work as a professional screenwriter. His credits for television span 20 years across soaps, series and single dramas, including The Bill, Monarch of the Glen and Split Second starring Clive Owen. He has also written award-winning work in short film, theatre, radio and short fiction. Since joining Screen Academy Scotland in 2007, James has been involved in a number of adaptations and collaborations with crime author Ian Rankin, including Reichenbach Falls (2007) and Doors Open (2012), a 120' comedy thriller for ITV, which was produced by and starred Stephen Fry. Current work in development includes Chosen, a TV serial set in Estonia, in development with Allfilm (Estonia) and Compact (UK). The project secured funding from Creative Scotland and Canada Media Fund in 2020. Berwick Law, a low budget feature film, has been developed by Creative Scotland and the BFI's Scottish Film Talent Network.
Research Interests	Research interests include adaptation and developing collaborative projects and links between students and industry. Conference papers to Association of Adapation Studies (Istanbul, 2013) and Screenwriting Research Network (Potsdam, 2015). Workshops at Edinburgh International Film Festival.
Teaching and Learning	Screenwriting tutor on Media-funded collaborative Engage project (2007-14) linking students from Edinburgh Napier University, Baltic Film and Media School (Tallinn), Irish Film School (Dublin) and Aalto University (Helsinki).
