Abstract
This patent stemmed from research undertaken to investigate the reduction of sound transmission through lightweight floors in apartments. Lightweight floors have commonly been associated with low frequency resonance issues partly due to the lack of isolation from core floor to ceilings. The research identified new isolation mechanisms through the interconnection of the ceiling hanger. In addition, increasing integration of MVHR services for low carbon passive building designs required sufficient depth. Existing resilient ceilings can be awkward to fit resulting in poor workmanship, loss of performance and health and safety issues. The new acoustic hanger achieves high sound insulation performance, allows integration of building services and also includes an “easy fit” integrated connector which can provide temporary fixing thus improving the health and safety for erectors when fitting ceiling systems. This is a co-authored patent with ITW one of the world’s largest construction connector product manufacturers present in 57 countries. The acoustic hanger is manufactured by ITW in the UK.
