Abstract
As a new nursing specialty, tissue viability has come a long way in the last 15 years. Beginning from a handful of substantiated posts, there now appears to be around 400 appointed nurse specialists and some nurse consultants in tissue viability. Many others are either acting within a post, developing a proposal for a post, or have moved from working as a tissue viability nurse (TVN) into teaching or research within the specialty area. However, until now, there has not been a UK-wide body to represent the interests of TVNs.
