Abstract
In August 2016 Edinburgh Napier rolled out their new end-to-end research management system. This allows academics self-service access to record and manage research information from project creation, costing, and post award management as well as adding items to the research repository and their research web profile. Here we analyse the interactions of our academics with the new repository (Worktribe) and compare it to the previous 3 years interactions with the old repository (Eprints).
In both repositories academics were encouraged to self-deposit their repository items, but could request the library staff to add items. Also both repositories have been searchable via the Edinburgh Napier University website. (Eprints link on the Edinburgh Napier library). However, the number of deposited items has significantly increased in the past year and the range of deposited items has changed during this time. We will provide data to compare the numbers and types of repository items deposited in both repositories. Other factors, which may influence academics to deposit their items differently from previous years, include items being able to be linked directly to research projects in the management system, items being attached to their online research profile, increased promotion of open access and changes in the research culture of the University. This will be discussed in relation to the data.
In summary, we know the engagement of academics with our repository has changed in the past 12 months. Further analysis of deposit data in line with changes in the University policies, procedures and research culture will help to understand how to get the maximum engagement with the repository in our Institution.
