Abstract

Vaccine hesitancy, delays and or refusals to be vaccinated despite the availability of a vaccine, are a global problem. Since the Covid-19 pandemic there are declines in most vaccines indicating a crisis in confidence about medicine and science. Meanings of vaccinations are local and context-dependent. In this pecha kucha we showcase a programme of vaccination research that has focused on vaccine hesitancy amongst vulnerable and hard-to-reach groups for the Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine including: boys/young men; cultural diversity; sexual minority and people with an intellectual disability. Using a range of qualitative and critical research approaches that are tailored, vulnerable groups can be included and can participate in decisions about their health. We synthesise collective research findings to inform recommendations for vaccination.
