Abstract

Interest in Group Career Guidance (GCG) has surged recently, particularly among Career Development Professionals (CDPs) based in universities and - more recently - in schools and colleges. This innovative small group approach is closer in practice to one-to-one guidance than what we traditionally think of as groupwork in the field of career development. However, there remains uncertainty about how GCG differs from other career-focused groupwork, what it looks like in practice, the skills needed to undertake GCG successfully and the benefits it offers. This is the first of a series of articles focusing on GCG in Career Matters and introduces the approach to CDPs who are considering incorporating it into their practice.
