Abstract

This study explores how fear of goal failure may result into employees opting unethical behavior. Specifically, we suggest that individuals experiencing stressful conditions i.e. fear feelings about their work goal success may become ego-depleted and in turn make unethical choices to protect themselves. As resource availability can help individuals to deal with such situations so we explore moderating role of conscientiousness on the linkage between fear of goal failure and ego-depletion. Furthermore, individuals differ in their level of morality. Thus we propose that moral attentiveness can help employees to behave ethically when resources are depleted. These relationships may vary based on national culture. Therefore we control the hypothesized model with different samples, e.g. Pakistan and the U.S.
